Xbox Live price increase in May and how to avoid it

Microsoft have announced that the price of a year’s Xbox Live Gold will go up by £10 from next month.

“As of May 08, the 12-month subscription fee for Xbox Live Gold is increasing from £39.99 to £49.99 to address changing market conditions.” the message to Xbox owners explained, “All current subscribers will keep their current subscription fee for 90 days.”

This worried many that they would need to top up their pre-payed Gold membership even though it had already been paid for but Microsoft have confirmed that anyone with a Gold subscription will not have to pay extra until their subscription ends.

However, this also opens up a loop-hole for those who want to save a bit of money in the long term.  Sites like CD-Keys are offering Xbox subscriptions at a discount, much lower than even the current £39.99 fee.

For instance:

12 months Xbox Live Gold is £34.99 at the moment and those new to the site can get a 3% discount by visiting their facebook page.

3 months Xbox Live Gold works out even better value at £7.79 and this can be stacked for up to 3 years, meaning that you can buy 4 or 8 of these codes for 12 months and 24 months of Gold.

If you remember to turn OFF Automatic Billing before applying these codes, you’ll also get another month free when you apply them and agree to turning it back on.
